Styles of briefs Shorty

Sometimes referred to as a boy short, culotte or boxer, this increasingly popular style has a lower cut leg than a traditional brief, finishing on the leg rather than the bottom. As a result, it can be a good solution for VPL.

The traditional way to banish VPL, a thong has a small triangle at the back that tapers into a string, leaving the bottom bare.

Like a thong, a g-string leaves the bottom bare but is altogether skimpier, featuring just a string at the back.

A traditional brief has a medium rise waist – i.e. one where the waistband sits on or just below the belly button – and gives full back and side coverage.

Brazilian brief

Falling half way between a thong and a brief, a Brazilian brief is cut in a v shape at the back to cover just half the bottom.

Low rise brief

Sometimes referred to as a hipster brief, this has a low rise waistband that sits on or below the hips. It is designed to give a no-show look under similarly low slung trousers.

High leg brief

This is cut high at the outer legs to reveal more of the hips than a regular brief. A flattering shape, it’s designed to make the legs look longer.

French knickers

French knickers have
a loose, feminine cut, often in
a silky fabric.
